Leominster Junior School children marvelled at rarely seen relics from the town's past - including swords, pistols and a manacles used on offenders - when they visited historic Grange Court.
Three classes of youngsters from the school were fascinated and over-ran their time on a guided tour given by Mayor Janet Atkinson and Town Clerk John Wesley. The hosts spoke about their roles, the work of the town council and Leominster's ancient traditions.
Mr Wesley said he was delighted with the level of interest shown by the children. He felt sure that civic pride would continue to flourish among members of the new generation.
"It was lovely to talk to the children and see the fascination in their faces - they asked a lot of questions," said Mr Wesley. "The mayor and I both wore our robes but the children were able to see that we were normal people clothed in extraordinary garments."
Councillor Atkinson said that there could be a future mayor among the young visitors.
