ASSEMBLY ROOMS - Presteigne's reputation as a magnet for musical talent will be confirmed on Saturday evening when David Powell, co-Principal oboist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, will join three colleagues, the Dewar Trio, to play Mozart's Oboe Quartet at the Presteigne Assembly Rooms. The Last Night of the Proms, where they played in the orchestra together, gave David the opportunity to discuss ideas for the Presteigne concert with violinist Frances Dewar and viola player Caroline Harrison. They have decided to play pieces derived from Mozart's Divertimento and the Beethoven and Dohnnyi Serenades. David Powell moved to Presteigne two years ago, and has been instrumental in bringing a dazzling array of musical talent to the town.
