THE SITUATION of the 24-month unborn child aborted on grounds of having a cleft lip and palate is very sad for all concerned, and raises some questions.
What counselling and support was offered to the parents in making such an agonising decision? Were they referred to a surgeon experienced in the repair of cleft lip/palates to make them aware of the excellent results that can be achieved as in the case of little Jack Christian featured in last week's Hereford Times?
Perhaps they were so daunted by the prospect of the deformity that they made the decision in fear and panic. They are no doubt still traumatised and grief-stricken and one can only hope they are receiving care and understanding.
LIFE exists to help in just such cases, and in all instances where an unplanned or problem pregnancy arises.
