Ledbury Town started this charity match at New Street well last Thursday against a Manchester United side that included four players with Premiership experience.

LEDBURY TOWN 2, MANCHESTER UNITED 4

Town's leading goalscorer Robbie Colwell nearly got the home side off to a great start but saw his powerful shot beat the keeper and rebound out off the post.

In the 15th minute a collision left Colwell holding his ribs and he left the field for treatment.

Town goalkeeper Adam Penny, who was celebrating his 18th birthday on the night, made two superb saves from Keiran Richardson and Matty Williams as United pushed forward.

The Town defence of Nick Welch, Lee Clueit, Towan Ravencroft and Mark Brookes were all playing well, backed by the safe hands of Penny and United were finding it hard to break the deadlock.

Ledbury were finally undone when Keiran Richardson fired in a free-kick from 25 yards that went in off the foot of the post.

Ledbury battled hard to get back on terms as Duncan and Phil Preedy and Neil Gardiner all went close before half-time.

United started to get more on top in the second half and David Jones netted their second goal in the 55th minute with a well-taken shot from just outside the box.

Matty Williams then put United 3-0 up with another terrific shot in the 70th minute.

With Robbie Colwell re-introduced back into the match Ledbury hit back strongly and cheered on by the large and vociferous home crowd it was Colwell who pulled a goal back with an effort from inside the box that gave visiting keeper Ben Williams no chance in the 80th minute.

Ledbury captain Stuart Hall then put his side right back into the game when he fired home a fabulous free kick from 30 yards into the top corner.

In the dying minutes United confirmed their superiority when Matty Williams broke through to make it 4-2.

The Town side had been far from disgraced and the large crowd had been treated to a competitive game with both sides giving it their all.
