Ledbury TOWN 7, COSELEY TOWN 0
LEDBURY Town completed a great week in their history on Saturday when they crushed visitors Coseley Town.
After their mid-week efforts against Westfields and Manchester United it was back to the nitty gritty of West Midland Premier Division football and their quest to get into a challenging position in the table.
If they can win their games in hand they will go clear into second place right on the heels of leaders Malvern Town.
Ledbury continued to play some attractive football and raced into a 5-0 half time lead. Goal number one came after 12 minutes when Rob Colwell rose unchallenged to head home Duncan Preedy's cross, then within three minutes Ledbury scored again when Nicky Welch picked up a loose ball and cracked home a 25 yard low drive.
Ledbury continued to dominate and when the Coseley keeper beat out Duncan Preedy's shot, he managed to retrieve the ball. He crossed to the far post for Rob Colwell to nod down and Phil Preedy drove home from six yards.
The poor Coseley defence had to work overtime and were giving away plenty of free kicks which Ledbury failed to capitalise on but on 35 minutes Phil Preedy's 25 yard free kick seemed to confuse the visiting keeper and somehow the ball went through his hands as he slipped.
Rob Colwell made it the nap hand as he went on a run beating three defenders and rounding the keeper to make it five.
Ledbury slackened off at half time but still totally dominated and increased their lead with a goal straight from the kick off. Good play between Nick Welch and Duncan Preedy saw Welch rifle home into the top corner of the net from 18 yards.
Only some stout defending and bad finishing kept the score line down. With 15 minutes remaining new signing Damian Edwards brought the ball down with one foot and fired home with the other to make it 7-0.
The day finished with a tough of sadness when club stalwart Steve Powell announced his retirement, due to continuous knee trouble, but he hopes to continue in some capacity giving some of his vast knowledge of football back into the game with the younger lads.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town travel to local rivals Malvern Town, kick off 2.45pm.
