MADAM, Having seen pictures of people throughout the world showing their beliefs against the war in Iraq, I wondered what a difference it would make if those numbers could give that same support for millions of children who could die, or have already died, through famine, disease, no medical care, malnutrition, lack of drinking water, etc some from years of drought, many through exploitation by the richer nations of the world.

Different media have informed us of the minuscule prices the producers of cocoa and coffee beans receive on world markets, so whole families including small children work in terrible conditions and searing heat, while the farmer gets such a low price families earn just 2p a day.

I have always admired students and professional people, the many organisations and societies, yes, and governments like ours, who give support and financial help to these poorer nations, mainly the children.

What an inspiration it would be to all these wonderful dedicated people if they had support from the millions world-wide who have shown their disgust for war and if they turned out in the same huge numbers to fight a greater war against poverty.

The huge cost of building one American stealth bomber diverted to the poor nations of the world to supply pure drinking water could save the lives of millions of children.

May the cries and tears of children everywhere be always seen and heard.
