Presteigne 5 Newtown 3
TWO goals from youngster Chris Jones, who has now netted six times in his last four games, led Presteigne to a convincing win over Newtown in the Spar Mid Wales League.
It was an excellent all-round display by Presteigne against a team who came into the fixture fresh from a 3-1 success against league leaders Aberystwyth the previous week.
Goals from Jones, Mark Mortlock and Tony Richards, who gave an outstanding performance, put Presteigne firmly in control at the interval when they led 3-1.
Then Dave Beaumont, who headed in a corner from player-manager Robbie Gore, and Jones hit further goals to extend the lead before Newtown grabbed two in the last five minutes to give the scoreline a level of respectability they scarcely merited.
