ROSS were given a hard battle by Hereford Times League Premier Division Fownhope in the HFA County Challenge Cup before two late goals gave them a margin of victory more convincing than the run of play suggested.
A fine save by Fownhope's Stuart Jennings foiled Jamie Warwick before Ross took the lead on 14 minutes.
Skipper Adam Bridges crossed from the left and Paul Burnham nodded the ball back across goal for central defender Dylan Blenkinsopp to head in.
Burnham might have extended the lead within seconds of the start of the second half with a shot which bounced to safety off the post but Fownhope then enjoyed a good period of play with Ian Jordan unlucky when a goal-bound shot hit a defender and went wide.
But, on 80 minutes, Ross goalkeeper Rich Newman threw out to Ian Price who passed to Warwick. He played a through ball to Burnham whose hard, low cross was side-footed home by Dewi Stuart and eight minutes later Adam Bridges' cross deceived Jennings and nestled in the top corner of the net.
The victory extended Ross' unbeaten run to 16 games and they are challenging for Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Division 1 honours.
