Congratulations - Jessica Selfe was selected to represent Herefordshire Under-19 Hockey Team in a recent tournament. The team came third, with good wins against favourites Gloucester and Dorset. They drew with Somerset and lost to Cornwall and eventual winners, Devon.
Archaeology Projects Group - Paul White, the archaeologist in charge of the Arrow Valley Project, recently gave an illustrated talk in the village hall. This was the second given in Eardisland, following a number which have taken place in other local village halls since April. Professor Macklin of Aberystwyth University gave the first. In this final presentation, Paul White described the results of the survey and excavations that have taken place during the past nine months, as part of the Arrow Valley Project. He explained that the historical development of the Arrow Valley could be viewed as the period since the last ice age, between 11,000-12,000 years ago. The areas that have been studied within the project are in Lyonshall, Eardisland, Staunton and Pembridge. The conclusions are that it appears from the evidence that there was a widespread abandonment of habitation in the Arrow Valley as a result of major flooding that occurred by people of the Bronze Age, the Romans and Saxons as well as those who followed.
Oral History Group - There will be a display of the photographs taken as part of the project to record all the properties in the parish, in the village hall between 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, December 7. The project is now nearing completion, under the direction of professional photographer, Jayne Watson. The churchyard memorials are now on the history website (eardislandhistory.co.uk)
Cricket Club - Edward Thomas has kindly agreed to present the Eardisland Bat, as well as other trophies for outstanding performances by adults and juniors in the 2003. This event will take place in the White Swan on Monday at 7.30pm.
Dovecote Trust - A committee has been formed to attend to the development and upkeep of the Dovecote.
