THE summer of 2003 proved to be a momentous one for Brockhampton Cricket Club whose first team raced away with the Worcestershire County League Division 2 title, netting a record 394 points on the way.

And 2004 promises to be equally memorable with the completion of a new clubhouse.

It was not, however, just the first team which enjoyed a successful season as the second team finished runners-up in their section after accumulating an impressive tally of 331 points.

The club's third team, which is applying to join the Flint & Cook Marches League, finished in mid-table in their final season in the Hereford Times Hereford and District League.

A number of individuals excelled as Brockhampton stormed to the title but none more than the club's professional Mahmood Malik. Malik, the brother of Pakistan Test star Abdul Razzaq, captured a Worcestershire League record 77 wickets.

In all, 15 players scored more than 200 runs to qualify for the Worcestershire League averages and Sunday captain Stuart Jennings won the Hereford Times Laurie Teague award as the leading bowler in the Catley Staite Sunday League Division 1.

The club's junior section also flourished with the under-15s carrying off the only junior six-a-side tournament in the county.

The club runs teams at under-11, under-13 and under-15 level, providing coaching for more than 70 boys and girls each week. Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Richard Thomas, club secretary, on 01432 273242.
