Kington was left without a mayor when Adrian Turner quit the post during a town council meeting on Monday.
Mr Turner, who has been mayor for six months, resigned by letter over 'a difference of opinion' but he declined to comment further on the situation.
During the meeting, former councillor Michael Deacon expressed his disappointment over Mr Turner's shock resignation.
He said he had done a wonderful job and with youth on his side, Mr Turner had added a different perspective to the role.
Mr Deacon said: "I was horrified to think that the youngest ever mayor in Kington was forced into this situation."
Kington town clerk Esther Rolls confirmed 'it was business as usual' at the council and decisions over elections to install another mayor will be made during the next meeting on December 1.
