HEREFORD Cathedral School rowers Alice Osborne and Lucy Edwards fought out a gripping battle for the bronze medal in the women's Junior-15 event at the National Indoor Rowing Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
Racing over the championship distance of 2,000 metres on Concept II Indoor Rowing Machines, Alice and Lucy battled to the 'line' with Alice eventually coming out on top over the last few strokes to win by 2.4 seconds in a time of 7 min 57 sec.
Alice, who received her medal from five-times Olympic champion Sir Steven Redgrave, goes to Cardiff in December to defend her Welsh title.
And Lucy quickly overcame her disappointment at missing out on a medal when she realised that she had slashed 30 seconds off her personal best.
George Probert, rowing in the Junior-18 lightweight event, despite being just 15, shaved 20 seconds off his personal best, while Seb Smith, who only took up the sport a few months ago, also put up a creditable showing in the men's Junior-14 competition.
