THE head teacher of Leominster's Westfield School for children with learning disabilities, Pat Chesters, retired after 31 years at the school.
Pat, who started as a class teacher and rose through the ranks to become deputy head and was then promoted to head teacher in 1981.
Colleagues and friends presented her with gifts and a bouquet at her farewell party.
A Herefordshire Education Authority representative thanked her for her dedication to pupils, parents and staff.
