A £300,000 refurbishment of Picklenash Junior School, in Newent, has been completed.
Eight classrooms have been extended and a new classroom added, together with a new computer suite and library.
The expansion was considered necessary because of a projected rise in the number of pupils expected to attend the school. The school currently has 230 pupils.
The school hall has also been extended and the school itself has been re-carpeted throughout.
The end of the work was signalled by a release of balloons by former teacher John Harris, who taught for 24 years at Picklenash before retiring in 2002.
The funding for the work came from education authority grants, with parents adding £10,000 to the pot through donations and fundraising drives.
British Telecom rewired the school for free.
