Colwall continued their Severn Division Two winning run with a 6-2 victory over Cheltenham Thirds at Balcarras School on Saturday.
CHELTENHAM III 2, COLWALL 6
Colwall started well, with a goal within the first two minutes from Gemma Richards. Cheltenham fought back strongly to level the score at 1-1, with a well taken goal.
There then followed a period of end-to-end play that saw both goalkeepers brought into action. As the half drew to an end, sustained pressure from Colwall resulted in a succession of short corners, and eventually Emma Twigg deflected a shot from Lucy Halligan past the keeper to give Colwall a 2-1 lead at half-time.
Colwall started strongly in the second, with Cathy Clements taking control in the midfield area, well supported by Jackie Stiles, Laura MacFarlane and Emma Twigg running through from defence, and Sam Shail and Gemma Richards in wide positions.
Steph Fitzgibbon was on hand to turn in a shot from Coral Handley, and she then added to her total with a shot from close range on the back post.
Cheltenham scored a consolation goal from a short corner before Colwall extended their lead with a cleanly-struck shot by Coral Handley from a short corner.
Colwall finished the game in style with an end to end move started by sweeper Lucy Halligan, and finished by her with a cracking shot into the roof of the net.
Colwall's next league match will be against Brockworth at Ledbury Leisure Centre tomorrow (Saturday), 2pm start.
