Ledbury Town ended Newport's unbeaten start in the West Midlands Premier Division with a convincing 4-0 away victory on Saturday.
NEWPORT 0, LEDBURY TOWN 4
Town ended their recent mixed spell and although they were without the two Preedy's, Phil injured and Duncan suspended, they paraded two new signings who both performed superbly.
Centre back Mark Green, signed from Cirencester Town, and young debut goalkeeper Adam Penny, from Essex, but presently a student at Hartpury College, were outstanding for Town alongside Robbie Colwell, who grabbed a second-half hat-trick.
Ledbury started the game well and Robbie Colwell went close in the opening minutes when his lob just cleared the bar.
Newport came back strongly and Town keeper Penny made a superb save from Phillips.
Ledbury opened the scoring in the sixth minute when a powerful shot from well outside the box by Neil Gardiner went in off the home keeper.
The game then developed into a midfield battle with few chances for the remainder of the half, but the Town looked strong with Lee Clueit, Mark Brookes and Mark Green in superb form.
Ledbury started to get on top in the second half and another long shot, this time a crisp strike from Robbie Colwell, deceived the home keeper to make it 2-0 in the 60th minute.
Ten minutes later Town's Stuart Hall, back from injury, sent Colwell clear and he lobbed the ball over the outcoming keeper to put Ledbury 3-0 up.
Newport realised the game had slipped away from them and as they argued amongst themselves Colwell broke clear again and made it 4-0, with a carbon copy of his previous goal, to complete a fine hat-trick.
