ST MARY'S school deputy headteacher Paul Shannon saw his school reap the benefit of his past football coaching when they received £1,000- worth of Umbro kit.
Shannon taught Hereford United's top scorer Steve Guinan at Hagley Catholic School in Stourbridge.
When Guinan won the award as the FA's player-of-the-round for his hat-trick in the fourth qualifying round at Harrow Borough, he looked no further than his old coach's current school as his nomination for the kit prize.
"Steve followed in the footsteps of Lee Sharpe, Darren Wassall and Vince Bartram who went from Hagley Catholic School into professional football," said Shannon.
"Pat Murphy from BBC Radio interviewed me just prior to a League Cup final where Lee Sharpe and Darren Wassall were representing Manchester United and Nottingham Forest respectively. During that interview I said we had a young centre-forward who would be a major asset to a football club. Ironically that club is Hereford United and I am working for a school in the city.
"We are delighted that Steve has thought of St Mary's and thank him most sincerely for donating £1,000 worth of Umbro equipment to the school. The money will be a tremendous boost in developing football at St Mary's."
Guinan, who received 73% of the vote in a poll on the FA's website to carry off the award, received a silver salver and some personal kit from Umbro.
