Hook Norton 2 Pegasus Juniors 1
DEFENSIVE lapses and an inability to convert goal-scoring chances again cost Pegasus dear as they slipped to their 13th defeat in 17 Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Premier Division outings.
Pegasus might have taken the lead on three occasions in the first seven minutes when home goalkeeper Guy Smith foiled Adriano Girolami, twice, and Gavin Stone.
But after goalkeeper Matt Taylor had saved well from Lewis Travers in a rare home attack, Hook Norton took the lead when Taylor dropped the ball at the feet of Jake Tyrell and the big defender blasted the ball into the net.
Tyrell then came to his side's rescue at the other end, hacking the ball away when Smith dropped a cross from Darren Jones.
Neal Hotchkiss and Girolami were unlucky not to level and Matt Gray fired into the side netting as Pegasus continued to press but the home side pulled further away when Craig Pearman crossed for John Evans to head home.
Tyrell once again was forced into a desperate clearance before Pegasus finally gained some reward when, as the final whistle approached, Jones lashed home a consolation goal from 12 yards following a fine five-man move.
