Newport 0 Ledbury Town 4
PROLIFIC striker Robbie Colwell bagged a second-half hat-trick as Ledbury gave their best performance of the season so far when they inflicted the first defeat of the campaign on their high-flying West Midlands League Premier Division hosts.
With Stuart Hall returning from injury, and fielding new signings Mark Green and young goalkeeper Adam Penny, the visitors made the best possible start when midfielder Neil Gardiner met a weak clearance from a Ledbury corner with a superb 30-yard volley which flew into the net.
Debutant goalkeeper Penny, a student at Hartpury College, was soon in action and showed his promise with an excellent save to preserve Ledbury's lead.
The visiting trio of Mark Brookes, Lee Clueit and Green won the midfield battle to control the play after the break, and Colwell, who was always a danger to the home defence, extended the lead with a crisp finish.
He then put the result beyond doubt with an excellent solo goal in which he beat two defenders before lobbing the goalkeeper, and then, with time running out, completed a well-deserved hat-trick with almost a replica of his second goal.
