Wellington 2 Brierley Hill 0
WELLINGTON were always in control of this West Midlands League Premier Division en-counter but their opponents, with a reputation for being great spoilers, made the hosts work hard for their win.
Eddie Wells and Andy Price both had chances to give Wellington an early lead as the visitors were slow to settle, but both dragged shots wide after racing clear with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Brierley found their shape and were quick to get men behind the ball when Wellington threatened.
But midway through the half Wellington took the lead with an excellent goal. A good build up saw the ball reach Kenny Styles on the right and he made ground before sending over an inch-perfect cross for Price to hit the target with a powerful header.
After the break Wellington had plenty of possession but found it difficult to get through a stubborn defence.
The important second goal came in the 66th minute when Wells sent over a teasing corner for John Kelly to knock back into the box, leaving Peter Wallace with a simple tap-in.
