Westfields 1 Coalville Town 0
WESTFIELDS produced an excellent team performance to beat Midland Alliance high-fliers Coalville and consolidate their mid-table position with their eighth league victory of the season.
After Wayne Hoskins forced visiting goalkeeper Richard Williams to make a fine save and Jon Hill headed a right-wing cross just over the bar, Westfields scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 31st minute through Scott Jackson.
James Watkins sent over a teasing corner and Jackson stole in front of the Coalville defenders to hit the target with a deft, near-post header.
Minutes later they almost doubled their lead when Williams fumbled a stinging 25-yard drive from Watkins but a defender managed to hook the ball clear.
Coalville raised their game after the break but were met by a well-organised Westfields defence in which Alex Winstone and Anthony Rivett were outstanding.
Westfields goalkeeper Jon Pugh frustrated the visiting attack to collect several dangerous crosses and the defenders did well to block a couple of Coalville free-kicks.
With time running out, Pugh made a magnificent point-blank save to ensure the winning points for Westfields when he came off his line to thwart a Coalville striker.
