ONCE AGAIN we have Mr Blair being blamed for all our ills, (M Waistell, Hereford Times October 30).
Yet another 'initiative' from Tony Blair. The law needs to be enforced is the cry. There is a bill going through parliament at present to give the police powers to deal with this anti social element. Needless to say it is being opposed by the Tories and Lib Dems.
I totally agree with M Waistell that action needs to be taken against the yobs who are committing these acts of vandalism.
I can look over my garden fence and see a beautiful park area being destroyed by these mindless yobs.
In recent weeks I have seen broken bottles strewn all over the basketball and the small children's play area as well as safety mats removed from around the swings and slides in this area.
Maturing trees have been broken off, attempts made to set fire to the skate park and hedges, and litter scattered around.
Of course we need something done about this stupid behaviour.
Perhaps a good place to start would be in the home - if parents started taking responsibility for their children's actions.
T G DAVIES,
Westfaling Street, Hereford
IN response to M K Waistell's letter (Hereford Times, October 30) and the campaign by the Hereford Times in support of 'Don't rubbish our City' which we are very grateful - I write again (my original letter sparked a response May 29, with photographs).
This letter also has to be without name due to increased vandalism, graffiti (and nuisance calls by hooded youths at night more recently).
The police are not interested unless a crime is being committed when they arrive (one to two hours later) and we are told that vandalism, noise and nuisance calls are a civil matter - for the council.
The police obviously do not have enough officers to be 'seen' on the streets and we the people of Hereford are at the mercy of these gangs. We feel that the town appears more shabby and unsafe as time goes by and we will gladly join any protest within the law. Thankyou M K Waistell and Hereford Times.
