CANON Frome travelled to old rivals Burghill for their final league match of the season and were asked to bat first on a lively damp pitch.
BURGHILL & TILLINGTON v CANON FROME
Chris Styles and Rob Mence took the score up to 39 before Mence was dismissed. This brought Chris Frost to the crease and runs began to flow with the pitch drying out. Styles holed out for 41 with the total on 80 but Frost was impressive as he stroked his way to 60 before holing out on the boundary.
Andy Rogers fell for 16 but Andrew Duddell ensured the pace remained in the innings with a well made 40. Matt Fortnam managed to get run out for the second week in a row and Neil Andrews was given lbw for six.
It was left to two youngsters Ned Mawby and Nick Panniers to take 24 from the last two overs, leaving Frome with a total of 233-7 Mawby not out on 12 and Panniers on 19.
Early wickets were needed but Frome didn't get any success until the score had rapidly reached three figures. Chadhani was bowled in Matt Fortnam's first over, which was the 17th of the innings with the total on 132.
Burghill skipper Morris was dismissed soon afterwards to the bowling of Neil Andrews and Fortnam snared his second wicket, chairman Alan Mawby taking the catch as Frome sensed the chance of an unlikely victory.
When Rogers removed opener Preece for 97 and Biggs for seven, Burghill still needed 48 runs for victory but they ran out winners by five wickets.
Frome ended the season mid-table despite having had a ten point deduction for not attending a league meeting pre-season.
