Ledbury Town returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory in this West Midlands Premier Division fixture at Wolverhampton.

WOLVERHAMPTON CASUALS 1, LEDBURY TOWN 3

The score does not reflect the game as Baker in the Casuals' goal turned in a stunning display.

Ledbury took time to settle before Lee Clueit saw his header from Gardiner's cross brilliantly saved by Baker and Stu Hall's perfectly flighted through ball saw Rob Colwell volley wide from six yards.

Ledbury got their just reward after a hand ball in the box and Rob Colwell made it six for the season from the penalty spot.

Ledbury had to make a substitution on 25 minutes when debutante Adam Thomas suffered an ankle injury after making an impressive start.

Ledbury had another chance right on half time when Duncan Preedy's inch perfect ball saw Phil Preedy volley wide from close in.

Ledbury started the second half well. The pace of the Ledbury front runners were causing the Casuals' defence numerous problems and from one such run Duncan Preedy put in another telling cross and Rob Colwell swivelled and volleyed home from 12 yards.

Baker then denied Phil Preedy, Colwell and Clueit with three great saves. Nothing was seen of the Casuals as an attacking force, Ledbury's back four Chris Jones, Clueit, Scot Mason and substitute Gavin Locke were doing a sterling job. But with 20 minutes left player manager Paul Tudor pulled a goal back to give the Casuals an outside chance.

Ledbury hit back almost immediately when Duncan Preedy received the ball on the edge of his own area and left the chasing defence in his wake. His cross was dummied over by Colwell and there was Phil Preedy arriving at the far post to finish off a brilliant goal.

Dimatree in the Ledbury goal gave another accomplished performance although a spectator for long periods. Ledbury were unfortunate not to add to their tally with Baker saving goal bound shots from Hall and Smith and when James pulled the ball back for Gardiner to slot home he was flagged off side.

Manager Paul Wilband was delighted and singled out the five young lads under 20 for special praise.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury play host to the higher-graded Blackstones of the United Counties League. Blackstones travel from Lincolnshire for this FA Vase round one fixture. Ledbury will hope to have a big crowd to cheer them on and continue their good start to the season, kick off 2.45pm.
