DESPITE my address I do live in the far north of Herefordshire.
Living so close to Ludlow I discover they now have a kerbside collecting service for recyclable materials which also covers the surrounding rural areas. As a family we recycle everything possible and think it is important to do so.
When I phoned the council in Hereford I discover that no plans have been made to give the rural areas of Herefordshire such a service. Why not, I have to ask? With an urgent need to find alternatives to landfill this seems a disgrace.
The lorry for collection of landfill sacks comes once a week, why can't it collect material for recycling? The council do have targets so I assume that the urban areas have satisfied these targets.
If Ludlow can provide this service why can't Herefordshire?
Is the council simply complacent or just giving a higher priority to the urban areas?
CHRIS KNIGHT,
Burrington, Ludlow.
