THE East Herefordshire team captured the Under-11 Boys' Herefordshire District Cricket crown after an exciting climax to the finals day at Luctonians CC.
The East Herefordshire team pipped North & West Herefordshire to the title after narrowly beating their rivals in a winner-takes-all final match
As a result of that last match, East Herefordshire topped the group with three wins, while North & West Herefordshire finished runners-up with two victories.
The Central Hereford-shire achieved one victory to finish third, and the South & West Hereford-shire team finished bottom without a win to their name.
In winning the competition, the East Hereford-shire Boys emulated the East Herefordshire Under-13 Girls team who had previously won their District Finals at Mortimer Park.
The two District cricket finals were made possible through the national Active Sports Programme, in which £10,000 has been given towards developing district cricket for young players below the standard of county representation teams.
The Herefordshire Cricket Board have linked up with the Herefordshire Sports Development United and are in the first year of a five-year Worcestershire Active Sports Programme.
The presentation evening for the Herefordshire District Cricket finals takes place at Bridge Street Sports Centre, Leominster, on Friday, November 7 at 7.30pm. For further information about the evening, contact 01432 260152.
