RUNNERS-UP Talgarth rounded off the season with a crushing nine-wicket away win over new champions Mon-mouth in the Flint & Cook Marches League Division 1.

Monmouth struggled on a damp pitch at the Sports Ground and were shot out for a disappointing 110 in the 43rd over, with only stand-in captain Chris Richards (62 not out) and Dan Head (20) making contributions.

Left-arm spinner Neil Morris (3-7), K Dias (3-36) and former captain Glyn Harrhy (2-29) brought about Monmouth's downfall, in which six home batsmen were dismissed for ducks.

Despite losing skipper Gethin Evans early on, Talgarth romped to the target, with Des Parry (48 not out) and Lee Pugh (47 not out) inflicting Monmouth's second league defeat in the 21st over.

An excellent 97 from in-form opening batsman Mark Preece inspired Burghill & Tillington to a comprehensive five-wicket home win over Canon Frome in a high-scoring match.

After a steady start by Chris Styles (41), the visitors had looked set for a formidable total when the big-hitting Chris Frost (60) and Andy Duddell (40) were at the crease.

But both Frost and Duddell were then caught in the deep by Neil Box, and Frome were restricted to 233-7. Burghill made a whirlwind start through Preece and Clive Chadhani (64) as the opening pair put on 127 in 16 overs. Although Preece eventually fell just three runs short of a deserved century, having hit 13 fours and five sixes, Simon Fanthorpe (28 not out) saw Burghill home to a straightforward win.

A powerful all-round display gave Wormelow an impressive seven-wicket away win over former league champions Good-rich.

Fine bowling stints from all-rounder Ian Herbert (4-31) and Ben Hughes (3-49) confined Goodrich to 180-9.

Although Goodrich captain Andy Brown, Phil Evans and Rowan Heath each weighed in with 34, the home side failed to recover from a bad start in which they slipped to 67-4 from 30 overs.

Wormelow had no such problems and a breezy 61 from Jamie Langford, who blasted nine fours and three sixes, put the visitors firmly in command. Herbert (49 not out) and Tim Boulter (34 not out) then swept Wormelow to the target in the 35th over.

Llandrindod Wells recovered from a perilous position to pip visiting Leominster by one wicket with just five balls to spare.

Chris Chadd (56), Steve Cole (28) and Kevin Howells (25) were the mainstays as Leominster reversed their batting order and posted 163.

The Spa club slid to 60-7 against tidy bowling from Russell Palmer (3-16) and Richard Finney (3-40) but Alun Evans struck 58 not out and the hosts squeezed home for an unlikely win.
