Hereford-based rugby club Greyhound kicked-off the new season in a winning mode when they beat Market Drayton 12-8 away in the opening round of the Powergen Junior Vase.
A hard-fought game was decided in Greyhound's favour by four penalties from Paul Stevens. The Shropshire club replied with a try and a penalty.
Herefordshire's leading clubs, Luctonians and Hereford, start their seasons in earnest on Saturday.
Luctonians are at home to Spalding in Midlands 1, kick-off 3pm, while Hereford travel to Bromsgrove in Midlands 2 West.
