Congratulations to Sarah Mobberley who spoke up on behalf of young people in the area of Ridgemoor Road, Cheaton Close and Middlemarsh in Leominster about the lack of play facilities for older children.

The councillors realised that the current policy allowed small-scale developments to be built without making any contribution to provision for older children and wanted this to change.

However it appears that councillors considered the area concerned was adequately served by the Bridge Street complex, a pay-for facility really designed to be used by organised groups.

The need is to provide attractive free facilities with a durable playing area which can be used for impromptu games of football, netball and other ball sports.

If you create areas which look attractive and are free they will be used. Girls play football as well now!

Maybe one day the children of that area will allow councillors to join in an impromptu game of football!
