Wintours Green in Dymock hosted its biggest crowd on Sunday since the Queen's Silver Jubilee for a fundraising tug of war event.
The day was in aid of the Beauchamps Arms, the community-owned pub, and was well supported by regulars.
Cindy Fowler, treasurer of the Friends of the Beau-champs Arms, said: "We leafleted around 400 homes in Dymock and the surrounding areas. The event went really well, with the cricket team winning the trophy."
The event attracted five teams, including a women's side, and raised £1,200.
The money will go towards a £3,000 appeal to rebuild the pub porch.
Mrs Fowler said: "We are almost there. A treasure hunt in May, our first fundraising event, raised £1,000. So, we've raised £2,200 so far with two events. The existing porch is a bit ramshackle."
Mrs Fowler said that many Dymock residents had helped the pub in various ways in recent years.
Landlord John Griffiths said how pleased and surprised he has been since taking on the pub last year.
