POLICE have interviewed two men in connection with the death of student Rachel Whitear.

One of the men, neither of whom have been officially named, has been released. The other is on police bail.

The inquiry into Rachel's death, in Exmouth, Devon, in May 2000, was reopened under the direction of Wiltshire police earlier this year following concerns raised by her mother Pauline and step-father Mick Holcroft, of Ledbury.

Images of Rachel were featured in a hard-hitting anti-drugs video for use in schools. However, there are question marks over whether the level of heroin in her blood was enough to kill her.

Commenting on the latest developments, Mrs Holcroft told the Ledbury Reporter: "It's been a difficult time for us. But it has been difficult ever since we lost her.

"We've known from the start that things were not conclusive regarding her death.

"We have to be patient, and await the outcome of the re-investigation."
