IN their penultimate Flint and Cook Division One league match of the season Canon Frome's visitors were Llandrindod Wells who asked the home side to bat, having won the toss.

CANON FROME v LLANDRINDOD WELLS

Frome welcomed back Chris Styles, who had missed two months of the season with a shoulder injury. He, along with Rob Mence, put together an opening partnership of 98 before Styles departed having reached his half century.

Neil Andrews fell in the next over for nought. Mence was then joined by Andy Rogers and they took the score on to 189 before Mence became the third wicket to fall at 67. Matt Fortnam was run out for five and Rogers holed out for 72 as Frome passed the 200 mark. Some late order hitting from Andrew Duddell and Nick Panniers saw Frome to a final total of 249-5.

Llandrindod's reply was dogged by controversy from ball one as opener Edwards chipped a ball from Nick Dallow to point, only for the umpire to declare that the delivery had been a full toss hit into the ground.

Frome did strike in the second over, Rogers removing the other opener J Davies. Brendon Davies then came to the crease and displayed some hard hitting before Rogers struck again to dismiss him for 37. Llandrindod lost their third wicket just before the 100 mark but runs still flowed freely over the fast outfield.

The total had moved onto 168 before the fourth wicket fell to Neil Andrews. When Rogers snared wicket number five the Welshmen needed 52 from the last ten overs with opener Edwards still at the crease.

Rogers and Nick Dallow bowled tightly to put pressure on the visitors and, with two overs left, 17 runs were still needed. Opener Edwards was finally run out in the 44th over for 78, leaving Dallow with 14 runs to play with in the last over.

A return of 1-4 was easily good enough to see Frome home by nine runs.
