Hereford United's Paul Parry has added a defensive string to his bow this season in a bid to help out the Bulls defence.

The 21-year-old has been an ever present in the Hereford side and caretaker boss Phil Robinson has praised the unselfish running he does in the team's cause.

Parry admits he is working harder on his defensive responsibilities this season.

"I think I had a bit of stick last year for not doing as much defensively as I could so I've made an effort to change and do more," said the Chepstow born player who is in his fourth year with the club.

"But I must admit I prefer attacking rather than defending."

Parry joined the club as a YTS and has enjoyed some memorable moments at the club particularly in the FA Cup against Wrexham recently and Premiership outfit Leicester City.

In the Bulls FA Cup clash with Leicester City a few years ago Parry hit the post while one on one with former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers - a moment he replays in his mind from time to time.

"Yes I occasionally remember that," he admitted.

More recently of course he helped Hereford in their latest giant-killing act when they beat Wrexham 1-0 in the first round.

"It was a great experience with the TV cameras and it was good team performance with our keeper, Matt Baker, doing magnificently well for us," he added.

"The team spirit here is tremendous and hopefully our Conference position is a bit of a false one and we can continue to put in some good displays and move up the league.

"We've had a good cup run but our performances in the league have not been as good as we would have liked.

"We managed to score six against Scarborough but since then have not looked like scoring."
