Hereford United 'keeper Scott Cooksey may be forced to quit the game after being told he could need further surgery on his injured wrist.
The England semi-professional international has been out all season after blood poisoning destroyed the ligaments in his wrist and severely weakened it.
But after making a competitive comeback for the reserves last month, the Bulls' favourite has been dealt another blow with the news he could face another operation on his wrist.
"Doctors are considering a further operation to try and improve things," said Hereford player-manager Phil Robinson. "Scott is currently considering his options and his future because he has a lot to think about."
Cooksey said the damage done by the infection, which left him in hospital for three weeks and almost killed him, made it unlikely the wrist would ever recover its full strength and mobility.
Striker Scott Voice is to have a scan on a troublesome groin injury which has plagued his first season with the club.
Hereford's fourth round FA Umbro Trophy tie with Hampton and Richmond Borough has been rearranged for next Tuesday at Edgar Street (7.45). It was postponed for a second time yesterday due to a waterlogged pitch.
