AFTER two high profile games in a week against the top two sides in the Nationwide Conference, Here-ford United are involved in cup action tonight.
They entertain Kettering Town in the Nationwide Variety Trophy, the League Cup for Conference clubs, at Edgar Street (7.45).
The two sides have already met at Town's Rockingham Road ground this season in the Nationwide Conference. On that occasion The Bulls claimed a 2-0 victory with Chris Lane and Kerry Giddings on target.
In the years since their relegation to the Conference, this competition has not been a big success for United. Last year they reached the second round after beating Sutton United, before losing to Yeovil Town, the side they are scheduled to play in this seasons next stage.
This season it takes on more importance as the side who wins the tournament gains entry to the Auto Windscreen Shield -- the competition for clubs in the Second and Third Divisions of the Football League.
Because of this Director of Football Graham Turner will be fielding a strong side.
"With the added importance of the tournament this year, we'll be taking it seriously," said the Edgar Street boss.
Hereford will be checking on the fitness of striker Gavin Williams and midfielder John Snape who picked up knocks in Saturday's defeat at Rushden.
Defender Paul Sturgess, striker Steve Piearce and midfielder Ian Rodgerson could also figure as they continue their battle for full fitness.
