Hereford United Director of Football Graham Turner is backing Steve Bull to play an increasing part in his club fortunes.
The former Wolves and England legend came off the bench to score an injury-time equaliser on his home debut in Saturday's 1-1 Nationwide Conference draw with Nuneaton Borough.
Bull, who is assisting with coaching at Edgar Street, will be among the substitutes again tonight for their FA Umbro Trophy fourth round replay at Leigh RMI (7.45).
Turner says that the knee injury which forced Bull to retire from league soccer will probably prevent him from starting matches, but he can play a more than useful role as substitute.
"What he has to do is build up his fitness. I think he can comfortably do 20 minutes and then as his fitness improves he can possibly do a bit more."
Turner said his goal on Saturday was a classic piece of opportunism from the striker, who scored a club record 306 goals for Wolves and won 13 caps for England.
"People don't always realise the knack of a goalscorer in finding himself space. We had a stack of crosses going in and he got in two headers and scored one of them."
The Bulls are likely to be unchanged for tonight's replay, with skipper Ian Wright still ruled out, but striker Kerry Giddings could return after missing the Nuneaton game with a hamstring strain.
It's a crucial game in more ways than one tonight, with the Bulls banking on a good Trophy run to boost their ailing finances.
A trip to Morecambe awaits the winners in the last 16 on Saturday, and Turner said: "A good run would be very welcome to us."
The tie is expected to go ahead tonight, having already been postponed once because the Hilton Park pitch was churned up by a rugby league game.
Turner added: "It will be a tough game.
"We don't expect the pitch to be in very good condition but it will be the same for both sides."
