Nearly 50 members attended the Bromsberrow Gardening and Social Club meeting at Bromsberrow Village Hall. Andrew Huntley, a gardening specialist and also a key member of the Growing Point Charity based at Holme Lacy, conducted the main talk. Growing Point specialises in providing therapeutic gardening experiences for those with learning difficulties, disabilities and the elderly. His talk was both interesting and informative and demonstrated to members how gardens can be a stimulating and exciting place for therapy and development. Because of the exceptional dry summer, he also spent some time discussing how to maintain a garden in hot conditions and which plants thrive best. Following coffee and cakes, our resident gardening expert David Myers talked on what activities we should be focussing on within the gardens at the moment. Now is the time to collect seeds for next year, including poppies and hollyhocks. Members were also encouraged to start browsing bulb catalogues, as this is the time to purchase. David also discussed the village show, which is being held on September 21, and our next meeting will discuss more on how to display items. Sara-Jane Watkins, chairman, thanked all those that attended the summer fling on August 2 where we had nearly 80 attend on a wonderful summer's evening. A grand evening picnic was held followed by a barn dance. It was confirmed that the next village social event will be held on November 7 within the village hall and will be a quiz night. The next meeting will be held on September 11 at 8pm within the village hall. Mr Boon plans a talk on fencing. A harvest supper will be held and members are invited to bring a plate of food to share with others. A raffle, bring and buy sale and refreshments will also be available.
