NEW president of Hereford Lions Club is Colin Smith, who works in the distribution unit at Bulmers, and who has for many years been secretary of the Lions holiday home in Burnham on Sea. Colin, aged 50, and a native of Kington served 10 years in the army, but has spent the last 26 years at Bulmers. He and his wife, Janice, who live at Belmont, have two daughters and three grandchildren. For his president's project Colin has elected to commit the city's most active community service club to raising funds for the County Air Ambulance. He said: "This is a life-saving service, especially in a vast rural region such as Herefordshire, yet it relies totally on voluntary donations to survive. With the support of my fellow Lions I want to raise not only cash to help keep the helicopters flying on their mercy missions, but to create greater awareness amongst the public of the Air Ambulance." Colin is no stranger to fundraising. In June, on the 50th anniversary of the conquering of Mount Everest, he raised £1,500 for Acorns Children's Hospice by doing 29,500 steps on a gym step machine in seven hours.
