SOME of Hereford United's greatest names of the past will be doing battle with showbiz stars and ex-England heroes in a charity fundraising match next week.
The Hereford past and present side will take on a celebrity team captained by former Liverpool and England captain Emlyn Hughes at Edgar Street next Sunday, April 2, kick-off 11.00am.
The club is banking on a bumper turnout for what is viewed as an important fundraiser for the club.
The club's FA Cup run earlier this season has safeguarded the club's future until the end of the season, but money is still tight at Edgar Street.
The club hopes the game will appeal not only to Bulls fans but also to people who don't normally come along to Edgar Street.
Club secretary Joan Fennessy said: "I think there will be a lot of interest in the game and we are hoping for a lot of people here."
The Hereford side is expected to include
three members of the side who famously beat Newcastle in 1972 - Ricky George, scorer of the winning goal, Dudley Tyler and Billy Meadows.
Other stars of the 1970s include goalkeeper Tommy Hughes and defenders Tony Byrne and Steve Emery, from the 1980s strikers Stewart Phillips and Phil Stant, and 1990s defender Gareth Davies.
The side will also include a smattering of players from the current Bulls line-up.
Hughes has recruited his former Liverpool and England team-mates David Johnson and Alan Kennedy along with former Aston Villa star Chico Hamilton and ex-Birmingham City player Kevan Broadhurst.
Soap stars Glenn Lamont (Richie Carter in Emmerdale), Dean Gaffney (Robbie Jackson in Eastenders) and Steve Pinder (Max Farnham in Brookside) are also lined up to play, as are TV personalities Tony Pitts (The Bill), Gavin Makell (Byker Grove) and Paul Hendy (Don't Try This at Home).
