Police are appealing for witnesses to two attempted burglaries.

Both took place on Wednes-day, August 13, the first at about 2.25pm in Lower Eggleton.

A man said he had come to check the electric and water and entered the property uninvited. He left the house empty-handed after the owner became suspicious.

The second attempt was at a house in Knapp Lane, Led-bury, at about 2.45pm.

A man in his 20s presented a false identity card, told the elderly occupant that he had come to test the water and kept her occupied in the kitchen while an accomplice entered the property via an insecure door.

Nothing was stolen, but police are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen either incident.

One of the suspects is described as being in his mid-20s, wearing a dark-coloured, short-sleeve top and possibly dark trousers.

Police are also trying to trace a large white van seen in the area at the time of the Ledbury incident.

PC Mark Herbert, from Hereford Police Station, urged residents to be on their guard for bogus callers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Herbert on 08457 444 888 or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
