ST Michael's Hospice has been named winner of the Ledbury in Bloom window competition.

The contest, organised in collaboration with Ledbury Carnival, encouraged stores to dress up their windows to boost the town's bid in the Britain in Bloom competition.

St Michael's Charity Shop was presented with the winner's cup on Monday by judges and flower arranging experts Pat Lewis and Gwen Pugh of Hartpury.

Second place went to J N Gaynon and Son, followed by Christopher Lyons and Isaac Stores.

Several businesses were commended by the judges, including the Shaw Trust, Ledbury Books and Maps, Sue Ryder Care, Lily and Tom, Shanti Shanti, Age Concern, Briggs Pharmacy and Nest.

Carnival committee chairman Steve Clegg said: "It was just a very colourful display."
