ON the same day England's women beat South Africa similar celebrations were taking place at Stowe Lane, when a women's representative side challenged a Colwall side comprising of fathers and daughters in a 12-over scramble.

Colwall were able to field junior girls Connie Holden, Emma Smith, Laura Berry, Chantal Holland and Sophie Jones to make their first appearance in a women's game.

The game was weighted requiring some of the male Colwall players to bowl eight ball overs.

Colwall batted first with Adrian Berry caught in the second over off Ali Simmons this was quickly followed with a caught and bowled as Connie Holden was out for a duck.

The innings were put back together by Stuart Bailey who was run out for 38 and P Barnes who was 43no.

Both Laura Berry and Emma Smith made a useful contribution in supporting Barnes and Bailey during their innings. Colwall finished on 105-6.

The women's innings started with a flurry of singles by Hannah Smith (32) and B Knibbs (44) who were not phased by the bowling of Holland and Henderson.

Emma Smith, Laura Berry and Connie Holden made useful contributions. The women required 12 runs off the last over.

The introduction of Colwall CC president Adrian Berry's off spin bowling was not enough to stop the women winning, as their captain, Coral Hanley, pinched the winning runs off the last ball with a four.

Special thanks to Barbara Berry, Dorothy and Dennis Smith and Beverly Holland for refreshments.
