A ROSS-ON-WYE Rowing Club member has warned youngsters to steer clear of the river after dragging a teenager out of the water with just seconds to spare.
Paul Nicholls and Rob Hunter joined Nigel Shepherd in the rescue on Sunday, August 10, and Mr Nicholls says people do not understand the strength of the River Wye.
"By the rowing club it is a very dangerous stretch of river because it takes people by surprise. In some areas it is only 2ft deep, but there are massive holes which can catch you out," he said.
"Only an hour or so after we saved the 16-year-old lad, another two boys dived in the water at exactly the same spot. I shouted at them, like I have done with so many people who take the risk, but the children's parents just look at me as if I am mad," he added.
