Leominster Town 1 Bridgnorth Town Res 1
LEOMINSTER'S new joint player-manager Adrian Evans expressed his satisfaction with the effort put in by his team as they opened their West Midlands League Division 1 South campaign with a draw against visiting Bridgnorth.
The visitors were first to settle and opened the scoring after 10 minutes when a swinging corner to the far post was volleyed past home goalkeeper Kevin McCall.
Both teams found it difficult to find any rhythm in the trying conditions but after the break Leominster started to gel and deservedly equalised midway through the half with a sweeping move.
Defender Evans' headed clearance found Ellis Langford who put Jason Jones away on the right. He raced down the flank and drew two defenders before slipping the ball inside to the supporting Ben Price who fired a low drive into the corner to complete fine counter-attack.
Langford almost gave Leominster the lead when his volley beat the goalkeeper but flew wide and, as the teams tired in the heat, both were denied the winning points. Nick Barnett cleared off the line for Leominster, and Jones saw his late volley palmed over the top by Bridgnorth's Chris Leith.
