Bromyard Town 1 Lye Town 2

BROMYARD promised well but surrendered the lead to slip to defeat in their first West Midlands League Premier Division match under the new management duo Mike Pugh and Martin Day.

Pugh said: "We started well but lost our rhythm after the interval to give a disappointing second-half performance."

After a confident start, Bromyard took the lead from the penalty spot. Chris Allen was bundled off the ball in the box and skipper Danny Hilditch stepped up to convert the penalty.

Lye got back on terms in the 38th minute when Bromyard conceded a free-kick just outside the box and, with Bromyard still trying to organise their defence, a quickly-taken kick was glanced home at the near post by Lye's prolific striker Andy Burgess.

Play deteriorated after the break and became scrappy as both sides lost cohesion.

With the game heading for stalemate, a swift counter-attack down the right and a deep cross saw Burgess head home a late Lye winner.
