Wellington 3 Shawbury 3
WELLINGTON snatched a dramatic draw with three goals in the last 14 minutes to bag a point and get their West Midlands League Premier Division season under way.
After Peter Wallace and Andy Price had both missed chances to give Wellington an early lead with only the goalkeeper to beat, the strong Shawbury team took control to gain a two-goal interval lead.
A badly-timed tackle by right-back Matthew Pugh conceded a 20th-minute penalty, which Shawbury duly converted, and then a weak back-pass by centre-back Sam Lloyd was intercepted by a visiting striker to notch a second goal.
Further pressure after the break saw Shawbury take advantage of a doubtful off-side decision to go three up.
Wellington's hopes were lifted in the 86th-minute when a Shawbury defender headed past his own goalkeeper, and a penalty from Kenny Styles five minutes later reduced the deficit to a single goal.
In the dying seconds Keith Jones chased a through-ball by Eddie Wells and, in a brave challenge, just forced the ball past the advancing Shawbury goalkeeper to claim a point.
