HEREFORDSHIRE Police have issued a warning about bogus callers after a pair of fraudulent workmen struck at two rural homes on the same day.
The first caller went to a property in Lower Eggleton at 2.25pm on Wednesday, August 13, and claimed he had come to check the electricity and water. He left the property empty-handed when the owner became suspicious.
A second man entered a home in Knapp Lane, Ledbury, saying he had come to test the water. He showed the elderly occupant a false identification card while an accomplice entered the kitchen. Again, nothing was stolen.
"We are urging householders, even in the hot weather, to keep their properties secure at all times,"said PC Mark Herbert. "Never let a stranger into your home without checking that their identity is authentic, by handling it personally.''
Anyone with information should contact PC Herbert at Hereford Police Station on 08457 444888.
