WALES IN BLOOM -- Dolau and Llanwrtyd Wells, two unstaffed stations on the Heart of Wales Line, jointly received first prize in the railway stations class in this year's Wales in Bloom competition. Dolau Station, which is between Knighton and Llandrindod Wells, is looked after by Dolau Station Action Group which this year celebrated its 10th birthday. Last year the station was the centre of attention when the Queen visited Dolau as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. "A visit to Dolau Railway Station is an uplifting experience as was evident again this year," wrote the Wales in Bloom judge. "The quality and maintenance of the floral displays is a credit to everyone involved. As usual, the platforms, waiting room and entire station were impressively clean. The standards at Dolau have set the target for others for many years, and they remain at that impressive level today. I am sure however that they will be pleased to note that standards are improving elsewhere too, and that Dolau Station is awarded equal first place this year." "We congratulate Llanwrtyd on their success," said Kevin Kell a spokesman for the action group. "We are also pleased at the investment being put into a number of stations along the line, and we hope that this will encourage greater use of the line, which is the Action Group's principal aim."
