CAMEO CLUB -- Knighton Methodist Church's Cameo Club was held on July 11. This was the annual afternoon tea party and club members were joined by invited friends and guests from Rhoslyn Methodist Church, Abermule. The afternoon went well. Everyone present enjoyed singing the hymns they had themselves chosen in the delightful and pleasant garden with Joan Beattie accompanying on the piano. They also played games, won prizes, and afterwards enjoyed a delicious high tea prepared by members and served in the shade on what was a very hot day. The August meeting of the Cameo Club will be in Rhoslyn. Members and visitors joined in thanking Sue Bywater for her hard work in making the arrangements for what was a very successful afternoon.

ST EDWARD'S CHURCH -- Father Donald Green celebrated Eucharist last Sunday in St Edward's Church. In his sermon Father Green explained how the church used physical things to convey an understanding of God. The St Edward's Choir, under the direction of Hilary Howcroft, led the congregation in the Rudge musical setting of the Eucharist. Cecil Rudge was organist. Ann Robinson and Peter Waters read the lessons, and Kevin Kell led the intercessions. Mr Waters and Mr Kell also assisted with the distribution of the Communion. Starting at 10am on the morning of showday (Saturday, August 30) St Edward's Bellringers will ring a full peal of bells.

COMMUNITY CENTRE -- The latest NRG Nite at Knighton Community Centre with DJs DS, Cleggy and Wobble was a great success and passed off without any adverse indigents. The proceeds will be used to fund the committee's ongoing programme of renewals and renovations at the centre, which will greatly improve the facility to the benefit of all users. The committee regrets that occasional licences to run bars at the centre are given on the understanding that all public dances at the centre will close to new admissions at 11.30pm. At the last dance large numbers of people turned up after the doors were closed and they were unable to get in. The committee regrets the inconvenience caused by this, but the rule was introduced by the management committee, after consultation with the police, to ensure that dances at the community centre are run in an orderly manner. "This is not an arbitrary rule introduced for its own sake by group of old fuddy-duddies," said community centre secretary Kevin Kell. "We did not make this decision at all lightly, and it has cost us considerable potential revenue. The 11.30 rule was one of several changes we needed to make to ensure that customers at discos can enjoy themselves in a safe, friendly environment. We hope that those wishing to come to dances at the centre will understand this, and bear with us."
FUTURE DANCES -- There will be a dance with DJ Storm on Friday, September 12 and an NRG Nite on Friday, September 26. These dances will run from 9.30pm to 1am.
