A STYLISH century from Brendan Davies, the cousin of Australian Test ace Brett Lee, swept Llandrindod Wells to a convincing 105-run home victory over Wormelow in Division 1 of the Flint & Cook Marches League.

The Australian opener struck an aggressive 131, containing 12 fours and four sixes, as the Mid Wales outfit flayed a weakened Wormelow bowling attack to post a commanding 249-5.

Davies shared an opening stand of 114 in 26 overs with skipper Robin Edwards (37), while M Evans (24) and N Mills (23) also contributed to the home side's tally.

Wormelow soon slump-ed to 64-5 against the accurate bowling of Martin Hurst (4-39) and were never in with a chance of the target.

Stand-in captain Chris Powell (32) and Tim Boulter (32) gave battling knocks but Wormelow were dismissed for 144 in the 43rd over.

Leaders Monmouth strengthened their title aspirations with a comfortable eight-wicket away win over basement outfit Ross.

A 45-run opening partnership between C Ball (23) and Graham Farmer (14) gave the strugglers a sound start but they could only muster 151-8 against a Monmouth attack led by David Cullen-Jones (3-31) and Charlie Bye (3-37).

Monmouth slipped to 23-2 in reply but an unbroken third-wicket stand of 129 between teenager Wayne Etheridge (66 not out) and Neil Franklin (50 not out) swept the Welshmen home in the 29th over.

Leominster skipper Russell Palmer gave a leading all-round display in his side's narrow three-wicket away victory over former champions Canon Frome.

Matt Richards (47) and Simon Cottrell (27) were the mainstays of the villagers' innings as Palmer snapped up 5-32 to dismiss the home side for 174.

Leominster, who fielded 10 players, were again indebted to their captain who, coming in at number four, raced to his half-century in just 21 balls and was eventually dismissed for 66 from 45 deliveries, having blasted seven fours and five sixes.

His swashbuckling innings put Leominster in the driving seat and Dave Bywater (16 not out) steered the visitors to a nail-biting triumph in the 34th over.

A powerful all-round display earned second-placed Talgarth an excellent 105-run away win over reigning champions Goodrich.

Fine batting performances from Gethin Evans (61) and Glyn Harrhy (47) took Talgarth to 245-9 against a Goodrich side which conceded 49 runs in extras, including 26 wides.

Only a breezy 46 from Rufus Davies and 26 from Andy Brown saved grace for Goodrich who were shot out for 140 in the 34th over by Harrhy (5-38) and Huw Griffiths (3-75).

Burghill & Tillington secured a crushing 164-run home win over struggling Crickhowell.

A 115-run third-wicket stand between skipper Kingsley Morris (73) and Tyson De-Souza (50) paved the way for Burghill's daunting 284, while visiting spinner Matt Snead bagged 5-94.

Rupert Lawrence (4-38) then got down to work and, backed up by all-rounder Ian Wood (3-29), lowly Crickhowell were dismissed for 120 in the 29th over.
